Coach Steve Schuette was inducted into the Missouri Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame!
We recognize a coach whose legacy is quite literally built into the history of athletics at Crawford County R-II. Schuette Softball Field is more than a name; it is a tribute to an individual who had years of dedication, leadership, and love for the game.
One of the most meaningful chapters of Steve Schuette’s career came when he had the honor of coaching not only one of his daughters but also his granddaughter, Hannah. In 2017, Hannah’s junior year, the Lady Wildcats captured a district championship, making that season especially memorable, meaningful, and personal for Steve and his family.
Beyond our local community, Steve’s impact reached the state level as well. He served for ten years on the MSHSAA State Softball Committee, demonstrating his commitment to the growth, integrity, and future of the sport across Missouri.
Steve will be the first to tell you that he doesn’t know his career record, only that he finished well over .500. But records were never the point. What mattered most to Steve were his athletes. They were his girls. They may not have always realized it at the time, but every practice, every expectation, and every tough conversation came from a place of care and belief in who they could become.
Coach Schuette taught others that coaching is about far more than balls and strikes or wins and losses. It’s about relationships, knowing what your athletes are involved in, supporting them, and letting them know they matter.
He also taught the value of hard work behind the scenes, maintaining a field and creating a place the girls were proud to call home.
A Hall of Fame coach leaves behind more than championships. They leave behind people, programs, and better places because they were there. Steve Schuette has done exactly that.
It is with great pride and deep appreciation that we honor Steve Schuette for his induction into the Missouri Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Coach Schuette, on this lifetime achievement!. This accomplishment is truly well deserved, and we could not be prouder of you! Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat!
